Some wonderful shots of the recent lunar eclipse on February 10th:

“Wait a second”, you might be saying, “that looks more like a solar eclipse!”. And you’d be right. But this is indeed a series of photos taken during a lunar eclipse. The reason the sun is obscured is simple — these shots were taken from the moon, by Japan’s Kaguya lunar orbiter.

Kaguya’s been sending back some wonderful high definition pictures, from a scientific perspective, certainly, but also just on a level of appreciation for raw beauty. Another notable series is that of the Earthrise, a frame of which is shown below:
